Difficulty finding work; Toronto has Canada's highest unemployment rate

 

Statistics Canada's labor force data report that Toronto has the highest unemployment rate in Canada. Statistics Canada released the figures for April-May 2024. According to the report, 317,200 people are unemployed in Toronto. Toronto has an unemployment rate of 7.9 percent. This is the highest rate in the country.

Canada's unemployment rate jumped to 1.9 percent in May from 0.2 percent in April. More than 83,800 people are unemployed in the country every year.

After Toronto, Windsor (8.5 percent) and Calgary (8.1 percent) also have high unemployment.
