Bird flu (H5N1) is reported to be spreading across states in the United States. As of 2022, the virus has infected more than 100 million birds, including chickens. And the virus has been confirmed in about 170 dairy cows and more than 200 mammals. Worryingly, the virus has also been confirmed in humans. The virus was first confirmed in humans in Colorado. As of Wednesday this year, nine cases have recently been reported at two poultry farms. H5N1 was also confirmed on a dairy farm. H5N1 is also being reported on farms in other US states.
It is believed that the virus may have been transmitted to humans from chickens. But experts pointed out that no cases of bird flu in humans have been reported in the United States, and no cases linked to dairy farms have been reported in Canada.
On July 14, farm workers were confirmed to be infected with the virus. It is believed to have spread from the slaughter of bird flu-infected chickens at an egg farm in Colorado. Meanwhile, health experts say there is no sign of human-to-human transmission.
