Paris Olympics: Eleanor Harvey makes Canada proud; Bronze Medal in Fencing

Canada wins first Olympic medal in fencing Eleanor Harvey, 29, won the bronze medal in the women's foil event. Harvey defeated Italy's fourth-ranked Alice Volpe 15-12 to take the bronze. It was Harvey's first Olympic medal and a victory that made Canadian fencing history. Harvey reached the semi-finals with a 15-14 win over Italy's Martina Favaretto in fencing on Sunday in Paris.

In 2016, Harvey qualified to represent Canada at the Summer Olympics. At the 2016 Summer Olympics, Harvey defeated world number one Ariana Arrigo to reach the quarterfinals. It was the highest finish by a Canadian fencer in Olympic history.
