Neeraj Chopra in the final in the first attempt, along with Arshad

Paris: India's medal hopeful Neeraj Chopra crossed the qualifying mark in the first round of the Olympics javelin throw. 84 meters was the qualifying mark to reach the final. Neeraj covered 89.34 distance in his first attempt. Arshad Nadeem, one of Neeraj's main rivals, also qualified in the first attempt. The Pakistani player qualified by throwing 86.59 meters. Both of them competed in Group B. Earlier, four men from Group A qualified for the final round. Germany's Josef Weber (87.76), Kenya's Julian Yego (85.97), World No. 1 Jakub Wadlej (85.63) of the Czech Republic and Finland's Toni Keranen (85.27) qualified.
