Canada plans to curb low-income temporary foreign workers Employers in the country are considering restricting the hiring of temporary foreign workers in their establishments, Labor Minister Randy Bosnow said. The new measures come amid growing concern about abuses in Canada's Temporary Foreign Worker (TFW) program.
The Minister informed that it has been clarified in the discussions held with the traders and businessmen associations that this program cannot be used to avoid hiring workers.
This is part of an effort to reduce the number of temporary foreign workers in Canada. Immigration Minister Mark Miller has announced that the number of temporary residents in Canada will be reduced from 6.2 per cent of the population to five per cent over the next three years.
