A petition has been launched against KFC to stop selling 'halal chicken' at some locations in Canada after it was accused of flouting the dietary restrictions of other religious groups. A petition published on Change.org in July was started by Roop Sandhu. Sandhu says in the petition that as a Canadian citizen, a section feels marginalized by KFC's decision to serve only halal meat. Canada has a large population of religions, including Indian religions such as Sikhism and Hinduism. They do not eat halal meat. Therefore, Sandhu points out in the petition that those belonging to these religious groups are banning halal chicken.

They do not question the values of the Islamic faith. But the petition states that KFC needs to ensure that all individuals' dietary preferences are recognized and respected and that the decision be reconsidered.

KFC Canada had announced that starting May 15, it will distribute halal chicken to restaurants in Ontario, except for Thunderbay and Ottawa.
