Mumbai: Fans may not have forgotten the fierce bidding for Australian pacers Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins in the last IPL star auction. Finally, Sunrisers Hyderabad bought Pat Cummins for 20.50 crores and Kolkata bought Mitchell Starc for a record amount of 24.75 crores.
There were discussions in the cricket world that the Indian pacers Jasprit Bumrak, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma would be ready to spend 30-40 crores if they reached the auction. Be that as it may, the BCCI has brought a new condition to prevent the price of foreign players from skyrocketing. According to the guidelines released yesterday, teams cannot call up a foreign player for more than the amount they will get for an Indian player in the next mega star auction or the amount spent to retain an Indian player, whichever is less.
For example, if RCB retains Virat Kohli for Rs 18 crore and Ishan Kishan is acquired in the auction for Rs 16 crore, no foreign player can spend more than Rs 16 crore in the 2026 mini-starlet. Now, if RCB calls for Ishan Kishan in the auction for 20 crores, the maximum amount that a foreign player can get will be 18 crores for Kohli.
