Drones flying over downtown Calgary beware. Violators of the city's drone rules face hefty fines, officials have warned. The City has posted signs in local parks with rules and instructions on where drones can be flown in the city and where drones are prohibited. Drone users must follow these rules. Violators will be fined $250 to $3,000, officials said.

Drones are allowed in some parks in Calgary. But specific restrictions depend on the weight of the drone. Drones weighing less than 250 grams are allowed in park areas. But drones weighing more than 250 grams require special permission as they pose a risk to people and aircraft.

Drone operators must submit a Calgary Parks Green Space application. It may take up to eight weeks to be approved.
