The effects of the Covid-19 pandemic are still ongoing. Prolonged respiratory problems were most common in those severely affected by Covid. But a group of researchers has come up with the discovery that the virus has a harmful effect on the heart. According to a new study, the risk of heart attack, stroke and premature death is very high for those infected with Covid-19. A study published by the American Heart Association (AHA) in 2020 says that people infected with Covid-19 before vaccination were twice as likely to experience these conditions from any cause three years later. The study says that the risk of heart attack or stroke increases even if the disease does not show severe symptoms. The study's findings suggest that the risk may be even higher among those hospitalized with Covid-19 in the first year of the pandemic.

People with A, B, and AB blood groups are at a higher risk of sequelae. The study shows that this is one of the first examples of interactions between genes and pathogens that increase the risk of stroke and heart attack. The study did not include people who became ill after receiving the vaccine.

The findings come from researchers analyzing data from the UK Biobank, one of the world's largest sources of health data. The trial involved 10,005 people admitted to hospital in the UK with Covid between 1 February and 31 December 2020.
