New York City proposes to allow employees paid sick days to care for sick pets. As part of this, on October 23, New York City Council members Shawn Abreu, Tiffany Kaban, Shahana K. Hanif, Farah N. Lewis, Chi. A. Osse recommended a bill that would allow employees to take time off to care for pets.

If the bill is passed, local law would allow employees to take sick leave for the diagnosis, care and treatment of pets. Leave will be granted to care for pets in case of accidents or injuries. If the bill becomes law, it will take 120 days to take effect.
