A couple from Gatineau, Quebec were brutally attacked during a South American road trip. Genevieve Plouffe and her husband Martin Audette, who were traveling in a bus converted into a mobile home, were brutally attacked by armed assailants. On October 28, a bus parked near the Miraflores locks of the Panama Canal was attacked. Martin Audette and Genevieve, who were inside the bus, narrowly escaped from the assailants. All the windows of the bus were broken.
Three men disguised as police officers approached the bus and demanded to open the door. After they refused to open, the assailants started firing. The violence was done by demanding money. The assailants dragged Odette outside and brutally beat her with the butt of a gun and other weapons. The police reached the spot after half an hour. Genevieve said it took four hours for paramedics to arrive.
When she contacted the Canadian embassy for help following the attack, they said their treatment was disappointing. The reply received from the embassy was to request the Canadian government for financial assistance. According to this, she submitted the form for financial assistance but received a response after six days.
