Car thefts in Canada are down after a spike in recent years. The non-profit organization Equit Association reports that SUVs were the most stolen vehicles in the country in 2023. The Toyota Highlander topped the list with 3,413 thefts last year. The 2021 Highlander models were the most stolen. The Equit Association also said that the Toyota Highlander's high resale value, both domestically and internationally, is what makes it a favorite among thieves.
The Dodge Ram 1500 series truck came in second place with 3,078 thefts last year. The Lexus RX series was third with 3,037 vehicles stolen, the Honda CR-V was fourth, and another Toyota SUV, the RAV4, was fifth.
