Thiruvananthapuram: The asteroid 2024 PT5, which was described as the Earth's second moon, will soon disappear from Earth's orbit. This guest, which has been in Earth's orbit since September 29, will have to wait until 2055 to return. The asteroid 2024 PT5 is a natural satellite that orbits the Earth like the moon, at least for a short time.

The asteroid 2024 PT5 entered Earth's orbit on September 29, 2024. It was known as Earth's temporary mini-moon. This asteroid, discovered by NASA's Atlas on August 7, had an approximate diameter of 33 feet. The asteroid will remain in Earth's orbit until November 25. Although it is much smaller than the Earth's real satellite, the Moon, the asteroid 2024 PT5 has brought great excitement to the scientific world when it reached Earth's orbit. 2024 PT5, which belongs to the Arjuna asteroid cluster, orbited Earth without any threat for two months.

Although it is not visible to the naked eye, NASA estimates that the asteroid 2024 PT5 will have to wait until 2055 to reach Earth's orbit.
