NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh won't support Liberal plan to give Canadians a GST holiday and $250. There is opposition to capping government aid. Singh said that the benefit limit should also include senior citizens, students, disabled persons and those who were unable to work last year.

Singh says he initially supported the idea because he thought the rebate checks would go to those who earned less than $150,000 last year.
Last week, the government announced a new plan to cut federal sales tax on items such as toys and restaurant meals for two months and give more than 18.7 million Canadians $250 in the spring. The proposed GST holiday will begin in mid-December and last for two months. The NDP had earlier called for a temporary suspension of the privilege debate to pass legislation to declare a GST holiday.
