Two major cities in British Columbia may disappear due to high tides, reports say A study by the company MyChoice also found that rising sea levels are increasing the risk to Canada's coastal communities.

NASA also states that if the trend of sea level rise continues, coastal erosion and tidal surges are likely to increase in the Pacific Northwest. Its impact varies from region to region. The MyChoice study shows that by 2100 the average sea level will rise by 127.4 cm and BC will be the most affected province in Canada. This will affect around 3.18 million people. 3,190 settlements are also directly at risk of flooding, including coastal cities such as Vancouver and Victoria. According to the World Meteorological Organization, the rate of sea level rise has more than doubled in the past three decades. From an average of 2.13 mm per year between 1993 and 2002, sea level has risen to about 4.77 mm per year from 2014 to 2023. Flooding is predicted to be felt across Canada's coastline by the end of the century. Around 3.9 million people live in these places. Studies show that at least 11,814 houses located just one meter above sea level will be submerged by 2100.
