Japan is set to put dead girl on trial. The decision by Japanese authorities to put a 17-year-old woman on trial for causing the death of another woman while committing suicide has sparked a major controversy.

The tragic incident took place on August 31 at the NEWoMan shopping complex above Yokohama Station. According to the South China Morning Post, the girl from Chiba Prefecture jumped from the 12th floor.

She fell on 32-year-old Chikako Chiba, who was walking with friends at the time. Both were immediately taken to a local hospital. However, the 17-year-old died within an hour. Chiba also died that evening.

Initial investigations indicated that the girl committed suicide, but the cause was unclear. Later, Yokohama police submitted the case to prosecutors, recommending that an indictment be filed.

The police argued that the girl was old enough to understand that her actions would harm others. As a result, the dead girl was now charged with ‘gross negligence causing death’, according to state broadcaster NHK.

That’s when people started criticizing it. People mainly criticized what was the point of filing a case against the dead girl, saying it was a misuse of money. However, many legal experts say that the case can serve as a warning to others, so there is nothing wrong with filing a case.

Meanwhile, many have commented that why is the child’s family being hurt like this, and that this case is an example of the stupidity of the authorities.
