Delhi: Police have arrested a young man who blackmailed women he met through dating apps by posing as a US model and swindling them. The man has been identified as 23-year-old Tushar Singh Bisht, a native of Delhi. Tushar, an employee of a private company in Uttar Pradesh, lured women by saying that he was a model in the US and had come to India for a visit. Police say that he has cheated around 700 women and swindled them.
Tushar also lured women through Snapchat on the dating app Bumble. He targeted women between the ages of 18 and 30. Police say that he duped 500 women through Bumble and 200 women through Snapchat and WhatsApp. Thushar was caught after one of the women who had been scammed filed a complaint with the police. The police said that Thushar had created a fake profile by arranging an international mobile number.
Through this fake profile, he became close to women on Bumble and Snapchat. Later, Thushar's method was to extort money by threatening them with their nude pictures. After gaining their trust, he had obtained the mobile numbers, pictures, videos and personal information of the women. Many women did not approach the police even after realizing the scam, fearing that their personal information would be exposed. This further motivated Thushar to commit the scam.
Thushar used to save the photos and videos sent to him through Snapchat and other means on his phone without the women's knowledge. Later, he extorted money by threatening to spread these pictures on social media and sell them on the dark web. The police said that the accused was finally caught after the woman who had been scammed filed a complaint. Police said Tushar, a resident of Delhi and a BBA graduate, had been working as a technical recruiter in a private company in Noida for the past three years.
