Trump to impose 25 percent tariffs on all steel and aluminum imports

 

 

US President Donald Trump said he would impose a 25 percent tariff on all steel and aluminum imports. This is in addition to additional tariffs on the metal. Details will be announced later this week. Trump was speaking to reporters on Air Force One on Sunday en route to the NFL Super Bowl in New Orleans. Meanwhile, he said the countries would announce the reciprocal tariffs on Tuesday and that they would take effect immediately. However, he did not specify who the reciprocal tariffs would target. It is likely that it will be countries such as Canada, Mexico and China.

According to official data, the US imports steel mainly from countries such as Canada, Brazil and Mexico. South Korea and Vietnam are next. Canada is the largest supplier of primary aluminum metal to the United States. Canada accounted for 79 percent of total imports in the first 11 months of 2024. Mexico is a major supplier of aluminum scrap and aluminum alloy.
